Arsenal star claims: ‘We have been the best team in Europe this year’

first_imgTheo Walcott says Arsenal have been the “best team in Europe” this year and can become title winners next season IF they stay injury-free.The Gunners are set to finish well adrift of Premier League champions-elect Chelsea this term, with the Blues all but sealing the title by holding their London rivals to a goalless draw at the Emirates on Sunday. But Walcott insists Arsenal’s impressive form in 2015 – they have taken 34 points from a possible 42 – shows they have the ability to be the top club in England. The winger, who missed out on the starting XI against Chelsea, along with fellow England internationals Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs, believes the current Arsenal squad is the strongest he has played in.“There is a lot of competition for places so everyone seems to lift a gear and play extremely well. It makes it a bit more difficult for people to get into the team,” said Walcott.“I think, especially this season, not many people thought we would be challenging for the Premier League.“In this calendar year, we have been the best team in Europe. It is the strongest the squad has been and everyone is staying fit as well.“There aren’t many injuries in the squad, which is important. If we had an injury-free season, I think we could lift the title.” Theo Walcott celebrates an Arsenal goal with Olivier Giroud 1last_img read more
